How do i use a vintage drum machine?
Hi, I recently got hold of a vintage drum machine by MPC from the 80s, I’ve got the D.S.M 1, D.S.M 2 and 3 D.S.M 8+s … I understand that not many of these were around and they’re pretty rare and for this reason I cant find any information on how to actually use them as Im not familiar with hardware (I usually produce everything using software). There’s sockets at the back for “triggers”, maybe that has something to do with it?
I just had a look at http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FMBJEkaC8Lw/SFct4iezJkI/AAAAAAAAVBw/x0K_nSZII2M/s1600-h/DSC_3900.jpg the trigger and pad sockets are standard jacks.
The supply cables are 5 pin din midi (connect as shown) if you have MPC drum pads then connect with a guitar lead to the pad inputs otherwise somehow use a guitar lead to short out the contacts in the trigger input.
Either way up you will have to play this as a drum kit.
